This glued-laminated timber deck platform was designed for the new municipal city centre. The deck was sculpted out of dozens of unique pieces of wood using a 5-axis CNC milling machine. Our design was carried out in 3D in order to develop complex geometry in accordance with the architect’s vision in Rhino. The entire platform (steel sub-structure by others) was designed to roll on tracks thereby creating a moveable stage. Careful coordination by our office with the shop drawing producers, contractors and suppliers were required through the design process. The final product appears to have continuous flow as well as all the connections are concealed.
