Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area
Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area is a landmark waterfront redevelopment that has transformed a former industrial shoreline into a new public conservation destination along Lake Ontario.
The 26-hectare conservation area includes new trails, boardwalks, lookouts, gathering spaces, and an Indigenous Teaching Amphitheatre, creating an accessible public landscape that connects visitors to the restored shoreline, wetlands, and habitat areas.
Moses Structural Engineers contributed to several key public-facing features throughout the park, including bridges, a meandering wood boardwalk, the amphitheatre, entrance gateway sculptures, and retrofit work to the existing breakwater structures.
One of the site’s most distinctive features is the presence of three historic steel cargo barges that were sunk in 1968 to form a breakwater along Lake Ontario. After decades of service, the barges required structural retrofit work to the existing steel and concrete, along with upgrades to improve accessibility and public safety.
The conservation area opened to the public in 2026.
