TimberFever Design-Build Competition begins this week

TimberFever’s fourth annual design-build competition begins this week. The event is presented by Moses Structural Engineers and will take place September 20-23.

Architectural and civil engineering university students from across Canada will compete in building a life-size structure out of wood.

A surprise brief will be handed out to each team at the start of the competition, along with a limited amount of supplies, including plywood, screws, nails, brackets, fabric, and a StopGap.ca access ramp.

Industry leaders have graciously volunteered their time to act as mentors and judges during the competition. Carpenters’ Union (Local 27) will provide hands-on support to the teams and help with construction. The event is organized by a team of Ryerson students. We are incredibly thankful to our generous sponsors who’ve helped make TimberFever possible.

“We created this competition to get future architects, engineers and professional trades working together before they graduate and enter the workforce. Since the beginning, we’ve felt a real sense of community around TimberFever, where everyone comes together to collaborate, teach and inspire. It’s been wonderful to watch,” says David Moses, creator of TimberFever and principal of Moses Structural Engineers.

TimberFever will be held at Ryerson University for the first two days of the competition, followed by University of Toronto for the last two days of the competition.

The public is encouraged to join on the final day of the competition and the TimberFever Awards Ceremony. It will be held on Sunday September 23, at Principal Hall, John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (University of Toronto), 1 Spadina Cres., Toronto.

“The projects keep getting better and better! We can’t wait to see what the students come up with this year, and we look forward to celebrating with everyone at the Awards Ceremony this Sunday,” adds Moses.

The winning teams will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, and then public voting will commence that evening for the People’s Choice Award via the TimberFever website.
