Moses Structural Engineers Inc. is a structural engineering firm providing custom residential, commercial, recreational and institutional design work. We specialize in novel design solutions and provide services for green building, heavy timber, structural steel, cladding systems, solar array systems, and long-span structures. We have a commitment to sustainable methods of construction, including natural and alternative building materials, material re-use and salvage, educating clients and community, and rehabilitating the existing building stock to reduce energy demand.
David Moses, PhD, PEng, PE, LEED®AP has over 14 years experience as a structural engineering consultant and has been involved in over 200 projects in Canada and the United States. David worked for Equilibrium Consulting Ltd. in Vancouver and Toronto where one of his highlights was being the specialty timber project engineer for the Art Gallery of Ontario renovation. David started up Moses Structural Engineers Inc. in 2010 and has now been specializing in natural building materials for almost 20 years. He is a recognized leader in this field in North America, through research, publications, awards and speaking events. David received the 2011 Forest Products Society’s “2011 Wood Engineering Award” and in 2009 the WoodWorks! Ontario “Wood Advocate – Engineer” award, for his work in the design and promotion of Ontario’s wood products. David sits on CSA code committees in the Forest Products Sector including the steering committee and technical committees “Solid and Engineered Wood Products” and “Wood Based Panel Products” and is vice-chair of SPE900 “Best Practices for Solar Photovoltaic Rooftop Installations.”
Antonio Franco, MSc, PEng, has 8 years of experience as a structural engineer specializing in steel construction, heavy timber, glulam, CLT, and the assessment and retrofit of existing structures. In the not-so-distant past, Antonio taught structural analysis and design of steel structures as a part-time university professor 2 years, while simultaneously managing a detailing department at a structural steel fabrication company.
Steve Mah, MEng, PEng, has been with the firm for two years. He specializes in designing structures and has worked on a wide variety of project types including new design and retrofit of residential, commercial and municipal structures; carried out in a wide variety of materials including timber, steel, aluminum, concrete, clay-straw, and reinforced polystyrene panels. He designs the occasional piece of company art and is a writer, traveller, and musician.
Karen Mesa joined us in 2010 and is our drafting technologist specializing in BIM and 3D design environments on multiple platforms including AutoCAD and Revit.
Elizabeth Cheng, PE (Calif) joined us in early 2013 with 8 years of Structural Engineering consulting experience. Her experience includes school design, hospitals, and commercial buildings with expertise in high seismicity. She has worked on a wide variety types of structures including wood, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and light-gauge steel frame.
Ursula Gerzer, BSc is on an internship with MSE. She has come all the way from Austria, where she studied at the University of applied sciences Salzburg, obtaining her degree in wood construction and wood technology. During her time at the firm, Ursula has worked on wood construction design, made improvements to our wood analysis tools, and taken the opportunity to see some of Canada’s sights.
