Moses Structural Engineers (MSE) was proud to sponsor Canada Builds Modern Summit 2026, held October 7–8 at the Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto, bringing together leaders and innovators from across Canada’s building industry to explore solutions to the country’s housing challenges.
The two-day Summit program provided an opportunity to look at some of the bigger challenges facing the industry: how we deliver more housing, adopt innovative building systems, improve construction efficiency and create communities that can support people for generations to come.
Discussions explored a range of challenges and opportunities, from financing and procurement reform to modern methods of construction, prefabrication and the role of housing as essential infrastructure. A recurring theme was that delivering more homes requires more than advances in construction technology. It also depends on coordinated efforts across policy, investment, design and the broader building industry.
As a proud sponsor, MSE also participated in the Innovation Expo, where we welcomed visitors to our booth and shared examples of the projects, structural systems and innovative approaches we’ve been working on. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with developers, designers, builders, manufacturers and others working to bring new ideas into real-world construction.
What stood out most throughout the Summit was the depth of knowledge, passion and determination across Canada’s building industry. It was inspiring to see so many talented people working to address complex housing and sustainability challenges, united by a shared desire to make meaningful progress.
Beyond the conversations about new technologies, building systems and construction methods, there was a strong sense of urgency around the need to deliver more housing, particularly for the people and communities who need it most.
For us, these conversations reinforced the importance of collaboration across disciplines and sectors. As structural engineers, we have a role to play in exploring more efficient building systems, innovative materials and practical solutions that can help make housing more accessible and sustainable. Projects such as Hälsa, a nine-storey mass timber residential development in Toronto incorporating prefabricated building systems and 60 affordable housing units, demonstrate how innovation can help address real housing needs.
The challenges are significant, but so is the collective expertise and determination of the people working to address them.
Thank you to Jennifer Keesmaat, the Canada Builds Modern team, our fellow sponsors and exhibitors, and everyone who stopped by the MSE booth to share ideas and learn more about our work.
We left the Summit encouraged by the conversations taking place across the industry and inspired by the people committed to finding better ways to build.
We look forward to continuing those conversations, developing new collaborations and helping reshape how buildings get built.
