TimberFever 2026 is in the news.
The 12th annual TimberFever design-build competition was recently featured in Daily Commercial News, highlighting this year’s Pollinator Landing challenge and the collaborative learning experience at the heart of the event.
Written by Don Procter, the article, “TimberFever competition creates a buzz, pollinating the next gen of architects and engineers,” looks at how this year’s participants were challenged to rethink the traditional small-scale timber structure. Teams designed and built accessible urban interventions that incorporated pollinator habitat, seating and opportunities for community connection.
The feature also explores one of TimberFever’s longstanding goals: bringing architecture and engineering students together early in their careers so they can better understand how the other discipline approaches design.
Moses Structural Engineers’ Israel Castro, who helped coordinate this year’s event, shared his own TimberFever journey with Daily Commercial News. After first participating as a student when the competition was held virtually during the pandemic, Israel remained involved with the program and now helps create that same experience for a new generation of participants.
Don also spoke with David Moses, Founder and Principal of Moses Structural Engineers and founder of TimberFever, about how the competition has grown since its first year. What began with a small group of sponsors and students has developed into an annual event supported by students, industry mentors, skilled tradespeople, sponsors and volunteers from across the building industry.
Now in its 12th year, TimberFever has welcomed approximately 1,200 students since its inception, giving emerging architects and engineers an opportunity to move from concept to full-scale construction while learning directly from one another and from professionals in the field.
The results of this year’s Public Vote Award are also now in. Congratulations to Team 16, Peace by Piece, whose Pollinator Landing structure was selected as the public’s favourite.
