Construction Set to Begin on Calgary’s Olympic Plaza Transformation

Moses Structural Engineers is proud to be part of the team supporting the transformation of Calgary’s Olympic Plaza, as construction prepares to move forward on one of the city’s most meaningful public spaces.

Originally built for the 1988 Winter Olympics, Olympic Plaza has long served as a civic gathering place in downtown Calgary. Designed by gh3 Architects in collaboration with CCxA Architecture, the transformation will reimagine the plaza as a more accessible, flexible, and active public space that honours its history while supporting future generations of Calgarians.

The renewed plaza will include a large outdoor gathering space for events of up to 5,000 people, a central water feature and splash pad in the summer, a skating rink in the winter, and a new pavilion with seating and amenities to support year-round use. The project is being delivered alongside the Werklund Centre Transformation, creating a stronger connection between Calgary’s arts, culture, and civic spaces.

MSE is pleased to contribute to a project that reflects the importance of thoughtful public infrastructure, community gathering, and the continued revitalization of Calgary’s downtown core.
