The results are in from the #TimberFever Design-Build Competition presented by Moses Structural Engineers!
The competition was held at Ryerson University this past weekend. Participants were given a surprise brief at the start of the competition where they were tasked with building an Urban Parklet out of wood. A mix of students from architecture and civil engineering programs were placed in 16 teams with limited building supplies where they collaborated on design and construction.
Industry leaders volunteered their time to mentor the teams and judge the completed parklets (view the TimberFever judges & mentors), and Carpenters Union Local 27 provided hands-on support during construction. The contestants were truly inspired by all the support! They demonstrated teamwork, communication, time-management, and woodworking skills.
“We’re working hard to make this a national competition,” said David Moses at the TimberFever Awards Ceremony this past Sunday. “TimberFever’s 5-year anniversary was a tremendous success with architecture and civil engineering students from universities across Canada, including Ryerson, U of T, UNB, McGill and more.”
Since the beginning, we’ve felt a real sense of community around TimberFever, where everyone comes together to collaborate, teach and inspire. It’s been wonderful to watch and we’re so thankful to everyone involved!
Congratulations to “Urban Whirlpool” for winning first place! They took home a cash prize of $1500!
Second place and $1000 goes to “Floating Garden”
Third place and $750 goes to “Urban Comb”
