Ontario’s first retail store built from CLT – assembled from 156 panels, to be precise – has opened its doors in Ottawa. The new Playvalue Toys building boasts 28-foot-high ceilings; each panel is four feet wide and five inches thick.
We created a hybrid design, mixing open-web steel joists with solid wood panels. Connections are concealed, leaving clean wood surfaces from floor to ceiling. This unprecedented project was made possible thanks to the store owner Doug Jones, who is a fan of innovative wood technology. We hope everyone at Playvalue Toys and their customers enjoy the new building!
