We provide structural design services for products that reduce the energy use of buildings. Systems that reduce energy demand include technologies such as innovative cladding systems and on-site renewables such as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and solar thermal panels. We design new buildings and modify existing buildings to accommodate renewable systems.

Our services include:

-          Feasibility studies for new and existing buildings
-          Analytical modelling for custom solutions
-          Custom racking design
-          Design and develop strategies for building structure upgrades
-          Hi-efficiency building envelope installations
-          Design review
-          Drawing production and seal for building permit applications

Our clients include:

-          Building owners (residential, commercial, educational, retail, recreational, institutional)
-          Cladding manufacturers and installers
-          Racking suppliers
-          Installers

Our engineers have provided structural engineering services to solar thermal and PV suppliers and building owners in British Columbia and Ontario for installations ranging from single family residential systems to 1000-collector industrial systems for rooftops and ground mount installations, on new construction and existing buildings, hi-rise and low-rise. We have provided design and analysis for cladding suppliers for new construction and retrofit of existing buildings. Combined, we have provided structural engineering services for over 5000 panels (PV and thermal) in Southern Ontario and over 2 MW PV and counting. Our expertise includes structural steel, cold formed steel and aluminum.

Since structural requirements for solar PV equipment are not directly addressed by our current building codes in Canada, we are working with the newly formed CSA committee (TSC F900) to address the requirements, make recommendations, develop a guideline and advance the state of the art in PV installations.
